Senegalese Twists

Senegalese twists are an excellent alternative to Individual braids. This style comes from Senegal, West Africa. Kanekalon (synthetic) hair is used to achieve this sassy elegant look.

Senegalese twists are known to make any woman look like she should be going out into town even if she is wearing her pj’s. This look is definitely something different from the usual box braids and or micro braids, but it doesn’t fall short in the glamorous category.

Senegalese twists are nothing more than two stranded twists just like the sister style Kinky twists. The difference though, Senegalese style is more of a sleek, sophisticated appeal. Where as the Kinky twists are shorter, and the hair used, Marley Braid gives the style a more natural kinkier finish.

Marley braid hair is used for what braiding styles?

Marley braiding hair is primarily used for the kinky twists braiding style. Because of its unique course or kinky nature, the when properly twisted into double strand twists, the appropriate characteristic of the style is where the name comes from.

Marley braid hair has also been used for the Senegalese twists hair style. It isn’t a common practice, but it can have a unique natural look compared to the common sleek and shiny look with the regular kanekalon brand hair.

What kind of hair is most popular for hair braiding?

The most popular hair used for hair braiding has to be the kanekalon brand. This hair is most closely resembles the likeliness of African American hair and it is extremely versatile.

Kanekalon hair comes in a variety of colors to match the normal shades of browns and blacks that are found in naturally on the human head, as well as shades of rainbow colors.

Kanekalon braiding hair is so unique in that it can be braided, twisted, and locked as well as curled, dipped in scolding hot water and burned. Regular human hair couldn’t withstand that much torture and not break off.

So if you are ever in a bind, and cannot decide which hair brand you should consider buying for your next hair braiding style, in most cases you cannot go wrong with kanekalon hair.

Can Marley Braid hair be used for Senegalese Twists?

Marley braid hair can be used for Senegalese twists. This isn’t the most common hair for the Senegalese twists style, but I have personally done a clients hair in this manner.

There isn’t a difference in technique when installing the twists on the clients hair, but you will see a difference in texture.

Marley braid hair has more of a kinky course finish, as to the usual sleek finish the usual kanekalon hair that is primarily used for the Senegalese twists style.

What is the difference between Kinky Twists and Senegalese Twists?

The major difference between kinky twists and Senegalese twists is the hair that is used for each.

Normally, the kinky twists style uses the Marley braid brand hair and the Senegalese twists style uses the kanekalon brand hair.

Marley braid is more course in texture than the kanekalon hair, but they are both synthetic brands. Both can be lit and burned at the ends.

Micro Twists

micro twists

Micro Twists are nothing more that smaller sized Senegalese twists. For those that are loyal patrons to the popular Micro Braid hairdo, this style of twists would make for a fresh new look. You will more than likely fall in love with this chic double strand appearance.

It is not recommended to continue with this look in a consecutive manner, for the health of your hair. Because this style is called micro twists just like the braid version, the extensions that are installed onto your natural hair may weigh it down. With that being said, there is a possibility for your hair to weaken because of this heavy nature of the kanekalon hair on your few strands that are sectioned off to complete this look.

This style is achieved with the same kind of synthetic kanekalon hair. Jumbo Silky Braid is a good brand to buy. This look takes about 5 packs for the average adult female. Since this is a smaller version of the Senegalese twists, completing the Micro Twists look would take about an hour or two more time for the average stylists.

Tree Braids

tree braids

Tree Braids are created with human bulk hair. The technique can be a bit complicated to understand for the newbie hair client, but consider it a mix between cornrows and a sew-in. Tree braids are installed by cornrowing the loose human bulk hair and strategically leaving out strands of hair extensions while making sure all of your hair is securely in the cornrow.

Tree Braids are very versatile with a free flowing appearance. Throwing your hair up in a pony tail, or letting it fall to your shoulders comes with no worries with this look. From 9-5 business savvy look to 5-9 party central, this look stays stunning.

Human bulk hair is a great option if you want to achieve the Tree Braids look, but high quality virgin Indian human hair is definitely always best. The synthetic brands, such as FreeTress is good if you are on a budget, but don’t expect the the style to last very long. With proper care and maintenance, this style typically last about 6-8 weeks. So you will definitely get your money’s worth.

Tree braids do have a few cons. It can be fairly easy to see where the parted sections where the braids were attached, especially around the nape of the neck. A solution for this problem is to have your stylists make your tree braids a bit smaller to make the style look as natural as possible. Also the hair cannot be reused once taken out. This style typically takes 5-6 hours to complete.
